The Parish Council is made up of nine Councillors and a Clerk.
The Council is responsible for the Recreation Ground, Horse River Green, Coronation Green, Hall Garden, Jubilee Garden (at Fag End) and the open spaces at Rookery Close and Pilgrim Close.
The Council is also responsible for a number of street lights in the village and will report faults and other highways problems i.e. potholes, to the relevant authority for action.
Each year the Parish Council sets a budget, which is funded by the residents by way of the precept payment to Uttlesford District Council. For the coming year 2019/20 the budget has been set at £109,467.00

New Code of Conduct
Pursuant to the requirements of the Localism Act 2011 Great Chesterford Parish Council resolved to adopt the Code of Conduct of Uttlesford District Council at its meeting held on 11 July 2012.
As advised by Uttlesford District Council, Great Chesterford Parish Council adopted UDC`s revised Code of Conduct at their meeting held on 8th August, 2018.
